Wincanton will deliver goods to Argos - International Freighting Weekly

Wincanton will deliver goods to Argos - International Freighting Weekly: "Wincanton has signed a three-year, £40m (US$65.7m) contract with Argos to manage the retailer's inbound UK supply chain, building on a 13-year partnership in warehousing and transport operations at seven locations in the UK.
A joint Argos/Wincanton team will take responsibility for planning and implementing port-to-DC container movements, scheduling and domestic supplier connections.
Wincanton will use its own vehicles as well as the Argos fleet to move around 35,000 containers a year. This will generate considerable cost savings and reduce the retailer's environmental impact by minimising empty vehicles on the road and reducing congestion. Wincanton will also manage the development of an IT project looking to migrate traffic onto rail where possible, to reduce carbon emissions even further.Anita Donohoe, inbound control manager for Argos, said: 'To extend our business to a supplier that we already work closely with makes a lot of sense. It will also provide various synergies that will ultimately reduce costs.'"
